Our Work

The U-Mix Centre

The U-Mix Centre, which is home to and managed by Football Unites Racism Divides (FURD) on behalf of Sheffield City Council, was officially opened on the 12th April 2013. It was the result of over ten years of hard work and lobbying by FURD and local partners to establish a suitable base for our work and better youth, community and football facilities in an inner city area.

FURD

A group of young people from around the city, many of whom were local to the Sharrow area, came together to form a steering group;  working closely with Sheffield City Council and FURD to ensure that the centre meets local young people and wider community need.  In many ways they were instrumental in the design of this awesome facility.

U-Mix, as well as having a 60m x 40m 3G Football pitch which divides into 3 5-a-sides pitches, boasts a recording studio, dance studio, gym, IT suite, positive activity / function room, resource & information centre and meeting room. The centre was funded by grants from the Football Foundation and a government funded ‘Myplace’ initiative through the Big Lottery Fund; with strong support from Sheffield and Hallamshire County Football Association.  The facility is managed under the guidance and support of Sheffield City Council.

In addition to FURD and a number of local/partner organisations delivering free or subsidized activities at the centre, U-Mix facilities are available for both private and community hire.
