'Zanzibar Soccer Queens' film show; U-Mix women and girls space

06 Feb 2013 / News

Following great feedback at FURD’s film festival in October, we have arranged another screening of the acclaimed documentary film Zanzibar Soccer Queens.

The screening, which is free, is on Tuesday 12th February at 6pm at the U-Mix Centre, and this time is just for women and girls. The film is about a mainly Muslim women’s football team in Zanzibar, East Africa, and challenges stereotypes about gender, race and religion. More information about the film is available from the links below.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com🏢office" />

The U-Mix Centre is now a female-only space on Tuesday evenings between 5.30pm and 7pm. A free youth club for girls aged 11 and over offers various activities including the use of the centre’s dance and recording studios, positive activities room and digital media centre.

A new group for refugee and asylum-seeking women is also running, with indoor and outdoor activities on offer and a chance to take part in FURD’s research project about how different activities can help people new to an area to find a sense of belonging.
