Tom Collins

FURD is very sorry to have to pass on the news that Tom Collins passed away on Monday 29th June.

Tom came to work at FURD as a Youth Worker in 1997, and after leaving in 2000, went on to be a Trustee, and then Treasurer, only resigning due to failing health in April this year. FURD has lost one of its greatest supporters, anti-racist work in football generally is missing one of its most experienced campaigners, and we are all much the poorer for his passing.

Tom was diagnosed with lung cancer in April last year and was originally given five months; those of us who experienced his energy, spirit, humour and love during this time will feel privileged that we had an extra ten months of him to cherish.

The funeral will be held at 1 o'clock on Friday 10th July at Beauchief Hotel (on the junction of Abbeydale Road and Abbey Lane) in Sheffield, followed by a private burial at Hope, then a wake at De La Salle Old Boys Cricket Club. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to St Luke's Hospice, Little Common Lane, Sheffield, either direct or by contacting Sonia Howard at FURD.
