FURD
On Sunday 8th August, young people involved in FURD's Positive Futures scheme are organising a football tournament in memory of their former team mate Ahmed Hassan, who died in a minibus accident on the way home from the Mondiali Antirazzisti (Anti-Racist World Cup) tournament in Italy in July 2009. The tournament, which is being held with the support of FURD, will take place at the Sheffield United Academy between 1pm and 6pm. The event aims to celebrate Ahmed's life and to raise money to buy a bench in his memory. There will be three age groups - under 14, under 16 and under 19 with an entry fee of £1 per player.
Whilst the teams have been decided and are mainly drawn from participants at FURD's normal Sunday coaching sessions, everyone is welcome to come along to watch and support the event, and will be able to play Streetkick, our inflatable football game. There will also be an entry fee of £1 per player for Streetkick. FURD's regular coaching session will not take place this Sunday as a result.
FURD has taken teams of young people to play in the Mondiali nearly every year since 1998, but did not attend this time. However, on the anniversary of the accident on 13th July, the tournament organisers awarded the 'Invisible Cup' to FURD with the hope that we will participate again in the future.
