Summer activities for young people

FURD is offering an exciting programme of activities for young people aged 11+ from now until the end of August. Here's the programme - click to enlarge. Printed copies are available from reception at the U-Mix Centre. Activities on offer include go karting, roller blading, ice skating, football, picnic, barbecue, lazer tag and a sports day. Most activities are mixed but we're also offering girls-only bowling, swimming, football and indoor climbing, and boys-only swimming and football.

The activities have been part funded by a £500 grant from Sheffield City Council via the Nether Edge Community Ward pot.

FURD has also been awarded £1500 from the same pot to work with young people in our neighbourhood. This is to address some of the problems of anti-social behaviour and community cohesion in the area by supporting local young people to take part in volunteering and youth activities. Young people are helping to run events in the area involving Streetkick, our mobile football pitch, and a number of local summer festivals and events, including the recent FURD festival and Eid festival at the U-Mix Centre.

We are also providing activity to support 16-18-year-olds to access training, apprenticeships and employment, and run workshops to support and raise awareness of anti-social behaviour, gangs, drugs and sexual exploitation.

Young people who have previously been involved in criminal and anti-social behaviour are being supported to deliver social action projects in the area where there is a clear community benefit, with young people themselves being encouraged to identify a community project that they would like to deliver.
