Sharrow United win the Cup!

FURD-supported giant-killers Sharrow United of the Meadowhall Sunday League First Division beat Premier League side Wadsley Bridge WMC 2-0 to win the Meadowhall Sunday League Cup on May 13th. The final was played at Bramall Lane in front of several hundred spectators. The match was deadlocked until the last 20 minutes when the breakthrough came. The first goal resulted from a corner won by man-of-the-match Manny Heywood. The corner was curled in by winger Oday Ibrahim, the "Baghdad Wizard", and in the crowded penalty box the ball glanced off the head of a Wadsley defender into the net. Victory was sealed with a late second goal from a free kick by substitute and original member of Sharrow United, Tariq Akhtar. The Cup win is Sharrow's finest achievement yet in the seven years since their formation.

Sheffield United's United Initiative will be sponsoring Sharrow United for the next two seasons.
