It is with huge sadness that FURD has learnt of the death of Lord Herman Ouseley. The co-founder of the Kick Racism Out of Football campaign in 1993, Herman was a huge inspiration to those individuals and organisations determined to rid football of the then widespread racism in the beautiful game.
Herman was a true pioneer in the fight for equal rights for all ethnic minorities in the UK. He was one of the first black people in British public life as Chair of the Commission for Racial Equality, Lambeth Council and before that the Inner London Education Authority.
FURD founder Howard Holmes commented:
"Herman was a great friend and supporter of FURD who was always complimentary of our work. This terrible news has come as a great shock. His passing leaves a huge hole to fill".
