Arthur Wharton was a great all-round sportsman, but (so far) there is no record of him playing golf or tennis. The scheduled appearance on BBC1's Antiques Roadshow set for 6th July was postponed due to the late running of the Wimbledon Mens Singles Final, but has now been rearranged for Sunday 20th July at 8.10pm - golf permitting!
If the leaders of British Open Golf are tied at the end of 72 holes on Sunday then the play-off is over 4 extra holes, which could mean a further postponement of the Antiques Roadshow episode. However a contact at BBC Bristol has confirmed that the programme will still be shown at some point at prime time on a Sunday evening, when it regularly attracts over seven million viewers.
Meanwhile the clip of AR valuer Adam Schoon meeting Arthur's great-granddaughter can be seen now at the link below.
