Moony's throwing himself into the canal for FURD

22 Sep 2010 / News

On Sunday 26th of September, FURD's Moony Wainwright is launching himself into the Manchester Ship Canal to raise money for a local community music space 'Star Studios'. The studio project, on Carver Street in Sheffield city centre, is the new home of FURD's Soundkickers project. It has been put together by three organisations - FURD, 'Reach 4 The Stars', and 'Musical Works' and hosts music making activities for young people and adults with learning difficulties.

Moony says, "I'll be squeezing into a wetsuit (is that enough reason for you to sponsor me already?) pulling on my skin cap and giant goggles then throwing myself into the freezing cold murky depths of Salford Quays aka 'the Manchester Ship Canal' and swimming one whole mile in the 'the British Gas Great Salford swim'. I've been hammering it in the pool and i've had a practice outside up at Rother Valley country park to get used to the experience of the only visible thing in the water being my own hands and random bits of weed and duck poo!"

Please sponsor him if you can to help raise money for this worthwhile venture which is helping to unite young people across Sheffield through a shared love of music. You can sponsor him through the Just-giving webpage by following the link below or by contacting FURD.
