Moony takes the plunge

13 Jun 2011 / News

On the 17th June, FURD's Michael ('Moony') Wainwright is swimming two miles of Lake Windermere to raise money to support the 'Sound Kickers' music project that he runs for FURD.

Last year, Moony completed the one mile Great Salford swim in 26 minutes 50 seconds. In this, his latest challenge, he has doubled the distance to two miles, the waters will be much colder in that deep lake plus there's always the threat of the killa blue algae!

He is hoping to beat the one hour mark, aside from hammering it in the pool he's been training outdoors at Salford Quays and getting up with the birds to swim with the ducks at Rother Valley.

Moony has paid all his own expenses for this venture and all moneys raised will go towards improving the facilities for all the young people and adults with learning disabilities who use Star Studios in Sheffield city centre, where Soundkickers is based.

No amount is too small, if you can just spare a couple of quid it will all add up.
