Kyle Walker called up to full England squad

FURD is delighted to learn that Kyle Walker has been selected for the full England squad for the first time for the friendly against Denmark on February 9th.

Walker, now 20, grew up just round the corner from FURD's base in the Sharrow area of Sheffield, and was first recommended to Sheffield United by FURD coaches in 1999 when he attended FURD's coaching sessions as a nine-year-old. He went on to make just a handful of first team appearances for United before being sold to Tottenham in 2009. He is currently on loan to Aston Villa.

Walker described himself in his Twitter feed as "so proud to be in the senior squad".  The match takes place in Copenhagen on Wednesday and kicks off at 7.15pm.

In 2009, FURD produced a four-page booklet, 'Kyle Walker: Local Hero', containing an interview with Walker, to celebrate his breakthrough into Sheffield United's first team. Contact FURD if you'd like any paper copies of it, or click on the link below (under 'Resources') to see the pdf.
