International Women's Day football match

06 Mar 2014 / News

FURD is planning a friendly football match to celebrate International Women`s Day, along with our new friends from Sheffield Ladies Community Football Club.

The game will take place at the U-Mix Centre on Tuesday 11th March between 6 and 7pm, and is open to any women and girls aged 9 or over to come and join in, or to watch. No experience is necessary, a female coach will be present and it`s just a bit of fun! Refreshments and a chance to network will also be available before and after the game.

The event is also a chance to celebrate the news that football`s world governing body FIFA has lifted its ban on players wearing the hijab or other religious head coverings. FURD runs a football session for women and girls every Tuesdays from 6-7pm with several Muslim players who play with their heads covered; it`s never been banned by us!

Contact Ruth or Mehrun at FURD or Nasima from SLCFC on 07872476638 for more details, or just come along with your trainers and a sense of humour!
