FURD
Congratulations to former FURD trainee Mukhtar Mohammed, who won a bronze medal for Great Britain in the 800 metres at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden on Sunday 3rd March.
Mukhtar attended FURD’s football coaching sessions as a teenager, and signed for Sheffield Wednesday after being recommended by FURD coach Luis Silva in 2006. He made one first team appearance for them, but was released at the age of 18 in 2009.
He then spent several months working for FURD on a Future Jobs Fund placement, before deciding to concentrate on running. He has been training hard, narrowly missing out on a place in the London Olympics. His training has taken him around the world including to Kenya, where he trained with fellow Somali Mo Farah.
