FURD's 5's qualify for regional finals

FURD’s 5’s is a small team set up by one of our volunteer coaches, Paul Rodda. He decided to set a team up as he felt he could have a very successful team with the players around him from FURD's Positive Futures project. He organised a team, after some selection headaches caused by having to choose 7 players from a pool of 30. He then asked for backing from FURD, which was provided in the form of a kit and the entry fee to the Seat Fives tournament. The Seat Fives is a national tournament with the ultimate prize being a VIP trip to the Europa League Final in Dublin on 18th May.

FURD's 5's came runners up out of 12 entrants in the local heat at Goals Sheffield on 27th February. They looked the most dominant team out of all of the competitors, with the referee once saying “I think you lot will win this, this year”. FURD’s 5’s finished top of their group winning all of their games, 3-1, 6-1 and 3-1, and then went on to the semi finals which they won 4-0 .  As runners up they qualify for the Leeds Regional Final at Goals Leeds on 20th March.

Coach Paul Rodda said after the tournament, “The boys have done me and FURD very proud. We all used to train together with coach Luis Silva and he basically built an amazing team. Marcin Ostrowicki deserves a mention though as he scored most of our goals, as well as others coming from great link up play once again involving Marcin, but the best goal, if I may say so, has got to be mine from around 20 yards out in a small net - I impressed myself to be honest, and it did involve a little bit of luck!”

The winners of the Regional Finals will progress to the National Final which will be held at Fulham Football Club Training Ground on Sunday 17th April.
