FURD has launched a new 11-a-side women's football team, competing in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Women & Girls' League, 4th division.

On Sunday 7th September we had our first match, which we lost 2-0 at home to Aston Swallownest. We're confident the team has the potential to get some good results this season, once it gets into its stride and players adjust to the demands of the 11-a-side game, which is new to many of them.

The team has grown out of our recreational turn-up-and-play sessions for women which have been running on Tuesdays, 6-7pm at the U-Mix Centre, Sheffield, for the last 12 years. Some of our players have found it difficult to progress, for many reasons including geography and economics. The aim is to provide a more accessible and affordable progression route in an area which lacks women's teams.

We still have spaces in our squad for more players, so please get in touch if you're interested.

An all-female team of coaches and committee members is behind the team, which we hope will inspire more women to come forward as players and volunteers, and provide a safe and supportive space for all.

Massive thanks to our funders and supporters Kitlocker, Sharrow & Nether Edge Ward Pot, Leigh Day law firm and Barclays Community Sport Fund, being delivered in partnership with Sported, for helping to make this possible.

Training is at the U-Mix Centre and home matches kick off at 1pm on Sundays at Norfolk Park, Sheffield.
