Over the weekend FURD staff took 29 young people aged 16-17 on a residential to London.
The trip was as part of our delivery of the National Citizen Service pilot pathfinder programme, in partnership with UK Youth. On this government backed programme, participants build skills for work and life, while taking on new challenges and adventures, making new friends, and contributing to their community by working on a social action project.
The group participated in activities such as Go Ape and London city bus tour showing them the tourist attractions in London. The young people also separated into two groups and had a treasure hunt challenge in central London. The winning team won a box of chocolate Celebrations. They also had a workshop on app designing and making a basic game which many of the young people enjoyed.
The young people also got a taste of travelling on the underground and had the task of leading the way back to the hostel by using a tube map. Overall the trip was a success and the young people really enjoyed themselves. We look forward to completing their social action projects with them.
