On Friday 21st June 2024, between 6pm and 9pm, FURD will mark Refugee Week by hosting a women's football match between FURD and Girl Power, followed by a question and answer session, open to the public.
Girl Power Team UK is a group of young refugees living in the UK, primarily composed of Afghan women footballers living in exile. These athletes use football as a tool to advocate for Afghan women in Afghanistan and serve as role models for other refugees by showcasing positive participation in their community. In honour of International Refugee Awareness Month, we aim to celebrate the positive impact of refugees on society through a friendly football match and a storytelling event. These activities will highlight the struggles and resilience of refugees.
Football Unites Racism Divides (FURD) is a youth and social inclusion project and charity based in Sheffield, which works locally, nationally and internationally to combat racism and increase understanding between different communities.
Kick-off will be around 6.15pm on the outdoor pitch at the U-Mix Centre, Asline Road, Lowfield, Sheffield S2 4UJ. The question and answer session will be inside the centre at approximately 8pm-8.45pm. Everyone is welcome. If you're planning to come to the Q & A, it would be helpful if you could email ruth@furd.org or call 0114 2587787 so we have an idea how many to expect.
