One highlight is a football festival from 30 January to 2 February, where FARE will organize a stall to engage with local kids and children at the SOS Children’s Village in Tema, near Accra. In Tema FARE will also display the Arthur Wharton Exhibition on the first black professional footballer, and give out FARE materials (t-shirts, anti-racism wristbands, pins, posters, football balls, FARE flyers etc). It is hoped that the two FARE-funded third country projects (Tudu Mighty Jets FC and COSPE) will be present.
Plans are currently being finalised for a FARE press conference in Accra, with key speakers FARE member Bella Bello Bitugu. ex-Ghana team captain and broadcaster Anthony Baffoe and a representative from the Ghana Football Association. FURD evaluator and World Cup 2006 veteran Chris Stone has brought the Arthur Wharton exhibition from Sheffield and will be talking about the significance of Arthur Wharton in the history of world football.
