Football Unites Volunteer Co-ordinator Mehrun Ahmed has been awarded MV Legend status at the MV of the Year award ceremony in Blackpool. The award, given by the national MV judging panel 2006, was to thank her for her ‘hard work, vision, commitment and inspiration’ in involving hundreds of young people in voluntary community work. The national MV of the Year award was also won by a South Yorkshire volunteer, from the Rotherham Make a Difference Volunteering project.
Eight young people from Football Unites Racism Divides were nominated for the regional Millennium Volunteer of the Year award in February 2007. The young people were nominated for their outstanding contribution to their communities whilst overcoming personal barriers .
MVs from our project were involved in planning and organising for the event, and got world famous celebrity Junior Witter Light Welterweight champion to present the medals to the young people.
