On Friday 18th June, with England fans gathering in Cape Town for the match against Algeria, FURD staff showed a group of fans from the London England Fans' group round the Offside exhibition at the District Six Museum. With the group was Chuck Korr, who wrote the book 'More Than Just a Game: Football v Apartheid' about the struggles of political prisoners on Robben Island during the apartheid era to play football, and the role that football came to play in their lives there (some of the prison wardens became their biggest supporters). The book has been made into a film of the same name, and both may be borrowed from FURD's library in Sheffield.
Also with the group was Marcus Solomon, who was one of the prisoners concerned. Whilst visiting the exhibition, Mark Perryman of the London England Fans' group made a presentation to Marcus of a football shirt bearing his name and the words 'Football v Apartheid 1969-1990'. An exhibition about football on Robben Island opens at the waterfront in Cape Town on Monday 21st June.
