The sixth FURD/SUFC Community Day has been set for Sunday 22 May 2005, at Sheffield United´s Bramall Lane ground, from 1.00 to 5.00. Last year´s event was our biggest yet, with an estimated three thousand people attending. Over 200 young people from many different ethnic groups had the opportunity to play in 6-a-side tournaments on the Bramall Lane pitch. United players Jonathan Forte and Jake Speight were there to present the winners with their trophies and medals.
The finale of the day was the annual 11-a-side match for the Community Cup. The winners were Sharrow United who retained the trophy with a 3-1 win over the African Dream Team, whilst visitors not involved in the football tournaments were well catered for with Streetkick, a bouncy castle and slide, clown, boxing exhibition with Brendan Ingle’s gym, a young people’s talent contest, stalls including henna painting and hair braiding, food and displays. A similar programme is being put together for this year´s event.
We are keen to involve more friends and supporters of the project, in order to cope better with the larger numbers. There are a variety of tasks that we need volunteers for; stewarding (indoor and outside), handing out programmes and stickers, pitch organisers, result couriers etc. In return you will receive a special edition Football Unites t-shirt - to keep! - and we promise to keep you fed and watered.
If you are able to help on the day, in any capacity, please telephone FURD on 0114 255 3156 or email.
