The sun shone on us on Sunday and we had a great turn-out at the FURD All Nations Festival.
The festival, held at Lowfield Park outside the U-Mix Centre in partnership with the i-Aspire Foundation, included football tournaments and lots of activities for the family including an Eid mela, Mega slide, boxing with Sheffield City ABC, Streetkick football, Last Man Standing, face painting, barbecue and other food stalls and lots more.
The event aimed to bring local people together, celebrate our multicultural community and raise awareness of FURD, I-Aspire and the U-Mix Centre and how we work with our community.
14 high quality teams played in the men's football tournament which was won by Teddy Bears, who beat Sheffield Bengal in the final, whilst Tusaale were victorious in the under-11s tournament. Several of the teams were made up wholly or partly of refugees and asylum-seekers.
Local talent was showcased with performers including Radicato Dance Company, Romano Jilo Dance Group, Jemma and Kerry Contemporary Street Dance, with MC Nige doing a great job as compere.
We've had lots of great feedback, such as this: "The event was well organised and well attended. There was a good mix of people and the entertainment was fantastic and very upbeat. Well done!"
THANK YOU to everyone who made the event such a success, including the large teams of volunteers provided by FURD and i-Aspire, Sheffield & Hallamshire County Football Association for providing referees and other support for the tournaments, MC Nige, Pro sound technician and all performers and stall holders.
THANK YOU too to all the sponsors who made it possible, including EHallam IT Repair Centre, Rajdhani restaurant, SamaD Cottage Restaurant, UK Legal Estates, Barqat Rice and Taktical Services.
