Sharrow United and African Dream Team in thrillers

Sharrow United, backed by FURD, are beginning to mount a strong promotion challenge this season, being unbeaten in seven games played so far. On Sunday, 7th December, they continued their defence as holders of the Meadowhall Sunday League Cup with a tough game against powerful Premier League opponents, Crookes FC, (formerly Punchbowl). Sharrow took a first half lead with a well made goal ending with a left footed drive into the top corner by Bjorn Taylor. Crookes equalised shortly before half time following an inswinging corner. In the second half, Sharrow slowly but surely took control of the midfield and began to dominate the game. Following a slick four-man passing movement, Michael Redhead put Sharrow in front with a firm drive from the edge of the penalty area. In the closing minutes, Iftikhar Afzal scored from close range following a clever free kick by Keith Ward. Despite desperate Crookes pressure forcing several late corners, Sharrow hung on for a thoroughly deserved 3-1 victory, and go through to the last 16 where they'll face fellow first division side Springwood.

The African Dream Team, also supported by FURD, have found things harder in Division Two of the Meadowhall League following their promotion as champions last season, but are holding their own, currently lying 9th out of 11 teams but with games in hand. Their last game finished in an amazing 5-5 draw away to Walkley Cottage, with ADT's goals including a hat-trick by Hashi.
