FURD`s Joint Co-ordinator, Mehrun Ahmed, has been nominated for a national award.

She was shortlisted for the Woman in Football category in the second annual Asian Football Awards, and along with FURD Joint Co-ordinator Simon Hyacinth, attended a glittering award ceremony at Wembley Stadium on 8th October.

The Woman in Football category was won by football coach, school teacher and Brentford FC Academy scout Manisha Tailor, who is the first British Asian female to hold a scouting position with a football league club.

Mehrun said:`I was both honoured and privileged to be nominated, both on a personal level and for FURD. The Asian Football Awards are very prestigious, and being among other Asian shortlisted women was both humbling and inspiring. It shows Asian women can achieve our goals if we persevere, in spite of the gender and cultural discrimination we have to endure.`
