FURD hosts a memorable Iftar: A celebration of patience and community
Mar 2025 By Sijo

On March 17, 2025, FURD welcomed over 120 people from the local community from all
walks of life to a special Iftar gathering, fostering a spirit of togetherness, reflection, and
gratitude. Iftar is the name of the meal eaten by Muslims at sunset to break their fast during Ramadan.

The evening was a powerful reminder of how patience shape both faith and daily
life, bringing people closer across different cultures and beliefs.
A key highlight of the event was the contributions from faith leaders, who shared insights
on the theme of patience:

A Muslim speaker reflected: “Throughout Ramadan, patience is not just about
fasting but also about understanding, empathy, and waiting for the right moments to
act with kindness and purpose.”

A Jewish representative spoke about Shalom (peace) and how patience plays a
crucial role in fostering harmony.

A Christian representative emphasised the importance of love being patient and
how this virtue should guide everything we do.

A night of togetherness and gratitude

Beyond the speeches, the event was filled with friendship, shared meal and joy. Guests
shared their experiences:

“I couldn’t stop smiling throughout the evening—hearing the speakers filled my
heart,”
 said one attendee.

Another guest, a regular service user, expressed: “I’m glad to be part of such a
beautiful evening—thank you for the delicious food and friendship.”

A FURD staff member reflected on the significance of the gathering:

“FURD has always worked to bring people together, and events like this remind us why a
cohesive community is so important for our city and glad we could play our part like many
others organisations”

We want to say a big thank you to our volunteers, local businesses and LAC committee from
the local council, as well as our funders and partners, who continue to support FURD’s
mission to build a cohesive community.

As we move forward, patience remains a guiding principle—not just in fasting, but in our
daily interactions, personal growth, and collective work in bridging the community to
build a more united and understanding society.
