FURD marked its 30th anniversary with a Football Tournament and Health & Wellbeing Day, celebrating three decades of bringing people together. The event reflected our commitment to creating spaces where people feel seen, safe, and connected, transcending differences.
The day welcomed 150 participants from across Sheffield and beyond. Teams joined from Leeds United Foundation, Sheffield United Community Foundation, Sheffield Wednesday Community Trust, and Welcome House from Hull, showing a shared commitment to inclusion and community.
In partnership with ShipShape Community Hub, the day also featured health-focused stalls from organisations across Sheffield, including the NHS, offering support, advice, and access to essential services.
One participant shared: Thank you so much for inviting us! I came here to play football but also got to talk to someone about a health issue I have! I even got a new kit to play in, and met some people from my country which is nice! Thank you so much! – Participant
‘The All Nations Event led by Football Unites Racism Divides epitomised the great work that is being undertaken in this area to bring people from different backgrounds, across the region, together to connect and play the Nations game.
The social drive was there throughout, which is imperative as we play our part in connecting and collaborating to assist those in our society that really need it. The level of play was a pleasure to watch, with some superb skill and energy on display!
At Sheffield United Community Foundation we are proud to support and play a role in these pivotal events, and look forward to continuing our involvement as we look forward.’ David Bly – SUCF Chief Operating Officer
As FURD’s Co-CEO said, “We’ve been doing this for 30 years, breaking down prejudice and standing as a pinnacle for cohesion, and we will continue to do so.”
