Our boys (not) in Brazil

03 Jul 2014 / News

FURD old boys will have observed the World Cup in Brazil unfold with mixed emotions.

FURD protege Aymen Tahar, currently playing In the top Romanian league with Gaz Metan Medias, watched with pride as Algeria progressed to the last 16. Aymen, who played 18 times for Algeria at Under 20 level, retweeted `So happy that #Algeria went through to the last 16. Another team from #Africa'.

Meanwhile many good judges feel that England missed the pace and power of FURD ambassador Kyle Walker, who frustratingly sat out the World Cup through injury, as he had in 2012 when being forced to miss the European Championships in Poland/Ukraine.

Finally, former Sheffield Wednesday professional and FURD volunteer Mukhtar Mohammed finished a close second in the 800 metre final at the British Athletics Championships in Birmingham. Mukhtar will be hoping to make the English team for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, as well as the GB squad for the European Championships in Zurich.
