Young volunteers wanted for film-making project

Football Unites Racism Divides has been granted funding to work with young people to produce a short film exploring Britishness and British values.

We are now looking for volunteers aged 16-24 who may be interested in taking part in a cohesion project or in any aspect of film making

The film, which is funded by the Home Office's Building a Stronger Britain Together initiative, will aim to capture visual representations of difference whilst highlighting the common values shared by individuals from various different cultural backgrounds.

The overarching goal is to use the film to tackle prejudice, discrimination and stereotyping that restricts the aspirations and actions of marginalised individuals and communities.

The film will feature interviews with newly arrived communities and the host community in Sheffield.

With ideas developed over a number of weeks through a series of engagement sessions, the project will provide a focus for minority communities to voice their belief in the fundamental values on which British society is built.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to work alongside a professional film maker and help shape the project. Young people will need to be able to make a commitment of three hours each week. Their travel and food expenses will be covered by us.

If you or someone you know are interested in finding out more, we'd love to hear from you! Please contact Mehrun at FURD on 0114 2587787 or mehrun@furd.org for more information.
